A bad poem for a good friend

Following the advice I gave someone else today, I wrote some bad poetry.

For My Friend (You Know Who You Are)

This poem on the letter A
was written just for you today
with couplets rhymed
and metered lines
(plus this odd bit that just sticks out)

Bullwinkle reads it in my mind
with nasal voice and slanted rhyme
a little lame
but all the same
the thought’s the thing that really counts.

  1. It’s a good bad one 🙂

  2. Hmm. All my poetry is bad so setting out to actually DO it on purpose? Might end up with something good. Yikes! Thanks for publishing an example to help us all out though on the quest for bad poetry. That’s what friends are for!

    • That’s the beauty of bad poetry: there aren’t any standards. Bad poetry is like compost — it happens, whether we want it to or not. I actually set myself a bit of a challenge with this one by using a rhyme scheme.

As one of my favorite sayings notes, “Never consider yourself a failure — you can always serve as a bad example.” Now, go and do likewise. 😉

  3. OK, had to share this: After telling my friend Mark about this, he sent me this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv1L-8f2erg
It adds a whole new dimension to the timbre and flow of this poem. 🙂 Enjoy!
